Runs, lineage and variations
Understand how Ounias represents analyses and preserves the relationships between original and derived runs.
What is a run?
A run is the persisted result of an analytical pipeline.
Runs contain the analytical configuration together with generated outputs, metrics, metadata, and references to associated artifacts.
They provide the base unit through which Ounias preserves and compares analytical work.
Analytical lineage
Runs are not treated as disconnected outputs.
Ounias records relationships between analyses so that an original run and analyses derived from it remain part of the same analytical path.
These relationships are exposed through the Runs Manager.
Variation runs
A variation is a new analysis derived from an existing run.
A variation remains linked to its parent rather than replacing it. This preserves the analytical decision that produced the new branch.

Why lineage matters
Preserving alternatives prevents the investigation from collapsing into only its latest result.
Keeping analytical branches allows earlier configurations to remain reproducible, comparable, and available for later inspection.
